After visiting Hong Kong on a ‘school trip’ (performing Royal Hunt of the Sun at the Youth Arts Festival) I’d always wanted to go back. It’s a fantastic place – vibrant, fun and utterly mental juxtaposed with scenic, rural, old fashioned eastern culture.
A lot of our time was spent working, but trips to the Big Buddah, Lantau Peak, and plenty of other touristy type places made the 2 week visit one that I’ll never forget. Flying business class with Emeriates (and running into Robert Kilroy Silk as he was on his way to the celebrity jungle), we stayed on Kowloon island which gave easy access to the night markets.
On the way back a stop off in Dubai (which is hugely underwhelming and really only any good for some guaranteed sunshine) gave us a nice break… particularly as we managed to get a free upgrade to a suite which overlooked the new Atlantis resort. Seeing the opening ceremony showed just how fireworks should be done and probably rivalled China’s Olympic opening!
